Sun, sun, sun!

Finally Jostein started his vacation as well! Yay! The sun is shining, the bunny is happy and all is well. I kinda gave up on the frappucinos, they never taste right. I'll just wait for Starbucks. I won't hold my breath... Instead I'll keep drinking smoothies, good for me and the baby.

This weekend we had some friends visiting for a music festival, it was great! Lost of BBQ, good drinks (Sprite Zero in my case) and good concerts. On monday Jostein went golfing while I slept all day. Very productive. In the evening we went to Apotekergården with Line and Cato for dinner.

Today we spent by ourselves, it was great. We bought some stuff for the baby (bed linen and such) and went home to clean the house and do laundry as Josteins sister is arriving tonight. So I better get back to work!

Have a wonderful summer!

Summer!

Finally! We've had sun and 25 c in the shadows, just perfect. I have to speed up my frappuccino, kind of forgot about the whole thing. I make smoothies every now and then, vitamins and fiber for the baby. Kiwi and passion fruit are my favourites!

I might sign up for a golf course in a couple of weeks, I was supposed to do that a few years ago. I started a course at school this week, but the hours were too long for me so I dropped out. I need my energy when I start 5th grade in August with exams, projects and a baby. I'm determined to give it a go...

Hopefully we'll buy a house this summer too as the house we are currently renting is crap and not suited for having kids.

Still no plans for the summer except Skral Festival which will be great.

Ta ta!

Baby Schmaby

As you might now, we are expecting a baby in mid november. I will try to keep this blog baby-free, and unleash most of my babytalk in my new baby-wiki. If you don't understand Norwegian, don't bother unless you have a very close (and strange) relationship to some dictionary.

Frappuccino again

I gave the frappuccino another go. I did almost the same as the last time, except I used less milk, added some vanilla icecream and some more icecubes.

The result was better, but still not great.

Must think of something clever.

Smoothie!

I wanted to make smoothies today, so we did. We made Josteins from a recipe, but i didn't like the recipes, so I put what I wanted in the blender and the result was great!

Ingelin's smoothie:
Some fresh pineapple (120 grams maybe)
2 passion fruits
Juice of 1 lime
2 - 3 scoops of vanilla icecream

Put all this into the blender and blend until smooth.
Put some icecubes (I think I used 6) and blend again until smooth.

Tastes wonderful!

Mission (im)possible

My allergies suck, and they make me stay inside. Hence I will be bored by the end of the week, and need something to keep me busy the rest of the summer. Yes, I know I can tidy up and clean and everything as well as watch crap on TV, but I need more!

Ever since I came back from Abu Dhabi I have been longing for a Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino. So my mission for the summer is to make a Mocha Frappuccino that tastes good. I have no ambition of replicating their masterpiece, but I want to make something that will keep me somewhat satisfied until Starbucks enter Norway (if ever).

I tried today, complete faliure. The taste wasn't all bad, but it wasn't nearly as thick as it should be. This is what I did:

Filled a glass with icecubes
Filled the glass (almost) with whole milk
One shot of espresso
Chocolate sauce by taste

Put it all into the blender and.. blended.

Next time I'll use less milk, more ice, more (and better) chocolate sauce and perhaps some cream in addition to the milk. Apparently americans use something they call half and half, which is half milk and half cream. Might try this as well.

Clue

I think it’s time I wrote a blog about Norwegian words that are used too little. I’ll put in the English translation as well as they are quite funny too.

Lømmel – lout, scamp
Slask - scamper, wop
Slabbedask – good-for-nothing fellow, goop
Banditt – bandit, gangster, badman
Røver – robber, pirate
Slappfisk - slacker
Luske - slink, sneak
Lurvete - slummocky
Lurveleven - hubbub, hullabaloo, uproar
Lusekjører - crawler, middle-of-the-road driver
Luring - sneak, sly fox, hangdog, hedger, slyboots, ear bender, egg, gammon, quack
Lurifaks - luring, clever Dick, sly fox, knowing one
Lurendreier - clever Dick, sly fox, (slang:) a knowing one

When I get Clue working again I’ll add more words..

I killed a bird!

My exams are over! Yay! This means: summer vacation! 2 1/2 months is a bit long, but I'll survive...

We went to Oslo for the weekend. The trip started out great. I killed a bird before we passed Arendal. The bird must have been of the stupider kind, it was obviously well aware of the car and did some tiny jumps as it was getting ready to take off. I suspect it ate too much, because the take-off went bad and it ended up on our car. I might have been going a bit too fast.

We arrived at my mothers place around 8:15 pm, had some food and went for a walk. I love Oslo!

Saturday was the Shopping And Eting Day. We shopped, and ate. Breakfast at Bagel & Juice, lunch at T.G.I. Friday's on Aker Brygge (sunny and wonderful) and dinner with friends at San Leando Tapasbar in Vika. After tapas we went to Hard Rock Cafe for drinks. Jostein was watching the bartender fixing his Mojito, probably hoping to learn some fancy drinky-tips. He noticed the enormous amount of mint leaves the bartender put in, and commented: "Wow, you use a lot of leaves!" The bartender smiled, and everyone was happy (Jostein probably also impressed). Then the time came for the rum. Dark rum of course. But then Jostein said: "Oh. Not so much rum..." and I think he was no longer impressed, but the whole bar got a good laugh! The Mojito was very good though. But they are wonderful even without rum. I had sparkling water. Lucky me.

Sunday we walked over Frogner to Vigelandsparken (Frognerparken), then back over Majorstua, Bogstadveien and back to my mothers place. We rested a bit and went for lunch at Burger King (no french fries), rested a bit and went for dinner at La Rosa Magra. We had great Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare. Went home, rested a bit and went to see the Da Vinci Code at Colosseum. Great movie!

It was quite an expensive weekend...

Exams...

Yay! Exams! Even if I say it like a thousand times, they still suck. And as I have been a bit off for a couple of months I have a lot of reading up to do... haha! My last exam is on tuesday, security is definately not for me. Then there is a presentation and report due on friday, and then - Summer Vacation! I think summer will be great. And cold.

Next weekend we're going to Oslo. My mother is going to London with my brother (he's turning 20!), so we have her place all to ourselves. We'll do some shopping, maybe meet some friends for dinner and, if there is time, a movie at Colosseum, my favourite movie theatre.

I have no idea what to do for the rest of the summer. Jostein will be working for 1 1/2 months of my vacation (this might be boring if the weather sucks), then we'll have 4 weeks to go away to... well. Somewhere.

Have to go back to studying now, I am in so deep s*** with this security exam thing.

Tata!

Frequent updates

Well. I am crap at blogging these days. Haven't been feeling well, so blogging has not been on my top ten. Easter is over, and as always it was too short and full of rain and candy. I'm full.

This friday piratUKA starts here in Grimstad, and I can't wait! There will be concerts, stand-up and all kinda stuff. You can check out their website at piratUKA.

So, I'm still not in a very blogging mood, this is it for today.

Ciao

Yes

We still have snow. An every now and then it melts, but there is always some new snow just waiting to fall down on us. And it's so cold!

I have an exam in a week, should be interesting. As I have barely started reading the abnormally boring book. It looks funny on the outside, but no.

This weekend we're going to a Briskeby (Norwegian band) concert, I am really looking forward to it. Then next weekend there is the Hore & Hallik (Pimps & hoes or something) party, where everyone dresses up like - you guessed it - a ho or a pimp. Always a great party.

Karianne, who I was in Abu Dhabi with last year, is now in Boston. Check out her blog (norwegian) at karianneiusa.blogspot.com She has unlimited access to Starbucks, and I don't envy her at all :|

It never ends

Still snow! On thursday I admired the space in front of our garage, as almost all ice on the ground was gone. I smiled to myself; "finally" i thought! Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves... I have to go out and shovel some snow today.. Jostein took care of it yesterday, but it just keeps snowing.

Speaking of snow; the winter olympics are now in progress, and we thought Norway would get like 13 gold medals. So far we have one. We rule. (Then again we have lots of medals, and some countries would celebrate for years, put we are a bit picky... we want gold!). Crap.

Actually this whole week was a bit crap. We were supposed to go to a Briskeby (great Norwegian band) concert on thursday; cancelled due someone being sick. And then we were ready for a lovely weekend in Oslo; cancelled due to stupid snow and crappy weather. But we make the best of it, and yesterday we invited Line for tacopizza and had a cozy night in. Today we bought new candy for Anne, our bunny. (No, she's not a playboy-bunny but a regular furry one with cute ears...)

Exactly one year ago, I was at the Officers Club in Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates, and Emirates Palace Hotel for the e-ducation without borders 2005. I'll find some nice pictures and put them in my blog. I miss Abu Dhabi!

Madwoman playing golf

I have gone stupid(er). I lost what I had of programming skills, and I suspect my brain has gone for a vacation without asking me first. Lucky me! A bit annoying as we have deliverables at school, but I hope I'll get well before it's too late. All is well that ends well, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The weather is not getting better either. First there was snow. Then there was rain (hurra) and now it's snowing again, so I feel like a crazy person everytime I am insane enough to leave the house. It's dangerous! Even worse, my boyfriend gets to work on a bike (bicycle, not motorcycle..). Scary! Maybe this is like an ice-age rehersal. If it is, I am so outta here before the ice-age. Unless I get some really nice skis or something.

Talking of sports, I have become addicted to golf. By miracle, a Norwegian guy is on the PGA tour, and I am hooked! I'm going to start playing golf now, definately! And that is good news to my boyfriend who hasn't played golf in like 3,5 years. I want some super cute golf shoes, and a Nike golfbag.

I have to go look for my iq.

Useful notes

So. We have lectures on Fridays, in software engineering ang compiler design. Stupid. From 10 am to 4 pm in fact. So, today I took some notes with help from Jan Thomas, and I want to share my notes with you as they are fantastic.

  • You are basically lost
  • Zis is something zat is not easily done
  • Zese connections can happen in various ways of course
  • Is it just a one-shot zing?
  • Building, architect, art
  • Zis module has an interface
  • Too bad
  • You don't really know somezing of ze type
  • Pop is just..., push is... int, stack, zey are related
  • You can find out how are zey related?
  • If you can push, somezing must be in zere
  • This means something already
  • push(_,_)
  • In zeory this is simple
  • You can push zings in where you want
  • There is a certain structure of zings
  • In a way also really expertise
  • What is ze data coming in, what is ze data coming out
  • ..so that you find ze zings you are looking for in ze zame place
  • Somezing of ze copy/paste zing
  • You dont need too much of a user manual
  • It had to be corect!
  • Oh! Zere waz an error.
  • If you had an user interface, it was just lying zere
  • Zere is a important zing zat is becoming more and more important
  • Zere is no screen in there
  • You can usually read text
  • How much cost does it cost

Todays Norwegian quote:

Alex til Morten: Har du sett den filmen der Chuck Norris slo ned han fyren?

English: Have you seen the movie where Chuck Norris beat that guy?

And when I thought the guy was talking about a stick, he was talking about stack.. almost the same!

Yay!

What a weekend! I had such a blast! And I am so great! I've been lying to my boyfriend for months while making evil but lovely plans for a secret birthday surprise party.

We started the party plans some time in November (when I had to friends of Jostein come for a surprise visit)! I teamed up with some of his buddies, and we all agreed they should come on the 27th. So I told him that 5 of my girlfriends were coming, and - the wonderful man he is - he was sooo happy for me to finally see my friends again! Even when this meant he had to spend the weekend with 6 silly girls.

So, friday arrived, and I made all beds ready and was all exited about seeing my friends. And when the chicks finally arrived it was so much fun! Because the look on his face when 6 of his best friends walked in the door (they are of course not chicks) was priceless. And Håvard, currently living in Denmark arrived some time before, so Jostein was super happy over that! I lied about that too. I have never seen him so surprised ever.

The weekend was great, we had super parties on friday and saturday. I havent laughed that much in years I think. I made mojitos (worlds best drink) and there was some singstar going on. We had a blast!

The guys left on sunday, and noone got arrested on the way home.. yay!

Now I'm doing my homework, not a blast...

This was a messy post, but who cares.. if you do, get a hobby.

Winter

So. No more holidays before easter! Crap.

Christmas was good, and all is well. I passed all my subjects and what more can I ask. Actually I did quite well. This semester I am taking Information and System Security, Distributed Systems and Software Engineering and Compiler Design. Yay.

Winter has come. Again. There is a lot of snow everywhere, and I am soooo tired of shovelling snow! It is a bit cozy though.. Especially when the snow-mountain is as tall as me... Like this:

Well, that's the price we pay for living in Norway. If we were even a little bit lucky it would stay cold for a while, but I doubt that will happen. If everthing is normal it will start raining tomorow, and then all hell is loose as all this snow (and this is a lot of snow) will melt. I might even drown on my way to school! (Maybe not, but hey..).

Inspired by 50 cm of new snow, we bought ourselves some new bikes (!!) on friday. My boyfriend bought a cool one and I bought an old lady bike with a basket in front and everything. Nice! I'll put my laptop in it. Or my bunny. Not flowers. Maybe some french bread would look cool? I suspect not.

I want to go cross country skiing...

Last christmas

Finally! It's christmas! And with christmas comes vacation, so I'm a happy little girl. All of my exams and project are over and done with for now and so far I have done fairly well. Let's not talk about the Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics please.

After the crappy math exam we had a sorta christmas party with my class, much fun comes out of much alcohol. So we had a lotta fun.

In a couple of days we are leaving for the holidays, now I'm just enjoying doing nada at home. I just had my birthday, I am now 26! And I got lovely presents. The best one is a Polar watch, that keeps track of my heart beat and all kinda stuff when I'm working out, and tells me how much calories i burned and all. Wonderful and strangely motivating. I told my watch I'll be working out 4 times a week, and it will check up on me. I't like a second mom or something. Good thing, as I need to work out a lot to make up for my birthday party...

From now on I'll write all new posts in English, as my friend Asher is crap at norwegian. We taught him some words but hardly anything useful.. haha!

I must return to my GameCube now. Make up for the 1 hr spinning class I went to today.

See ya!

Merry christmas too.

Lenge siden sist!

Skole i morgen, herlig.
